Visiting an island for someone who lives in the city for more than 19 years is like breathing fresh air that left remarkable experiences. Indeed, last August 16 was a very memorable one and should I say one of the best days of my life. That day, I had the opportunity to visit one of Cebu’s favorite tourist destinations. It’s the Sumilon Island in Oslob.
In that trip we are expected to try snorkeling, fish feeding, kayaking and enjoy the white sand beach. The moment we arrived at the receiving area (far from the island), orientation for the participants started immediately. People were so excited so I doubt if there were still listening to her at that time. Right after the orientation, we immediately went to the pump boat that took us to the island. It was expected to reach the docking area in just 10 minutes. Not really that far, you can even swim it from the receiving area if you like.
The moment I step on to the island, I felt that Sumilon Island’s beauty is extraordinary. I had a thought also at that time that it’s amazing how islands came up and it would be great to buy one (if got the wealth to purchase one, lol!).
I don’t want to waste time so I started snorkeling together with friends. Hence, I tried snorkeling before I was confident that I will enjoy it. And, I was right! I still remember how to snorkel. There are lots of fishes in different colors and sizes that I saw. The best part about it is you don’t have to go far to see beautiful fishes. Fishes stays in shallow part of the beach and probably playing hide-and- seek between those rocks. Speaking of rocks, it was like an obstacle that needs to be overcome to enjoy snorkeling.
Next thing, I tried was indulging myself to the white sand –located in the southwestern part of the island. The water is so clean and it feels like refreshing when you swim on it. If you use your snorkel you’ll see plenty of sea urchins resting under the water. It’s the reason why you have to be careful and should choose to swim near the fish sanctuary. Swimming inside their cute pool is the next activity I accomplished. I tried to swim as if I am a professional swimmer. Well, just a little mystery of why I float and swim like a good swimmer. There were laughters and teasing that time so it was really a good time that moment.
The next activity is kayaking. I haven’t tried kayaking before so am not that confident about it. I just go with some friends and I let them paddle. The lagoon looks green and it’s quite scary to be on the water. Well, with my curiosity I really asked the in-charge about an instance that someone fell, he said there was a time and there’s no need to worry. The life vest will help and the water is not that deep. That’s a relief!
The last thing is fish feeding. The sad thing is I haven’t tried feeding fishes. Well, I think I’ll try it next time.
That day ends with the feeling of contentment. It feels good to be there. The Sumilon Island’s grandeur beauty is commendable.
