Palawan Expedition – First Time Experiences Part 1

I know travelling is a sort of luxury for some of us here in Philippines. We don’t usually travel because we prefer to spend our money for our basic needs. My budget list is no different to yours but I was blessed enough when one of my friends invited me to travel with her to Palawan last March 15-18, 2011.

With her guide, I was able to afford travelling to one of the most beautiful tourist spots on Earth. The travel opened me to different first time experiences and every time I recall it I would say it was a “revolution experience.”  You might feel the same if you remember your first time experiences.

First on the list is riding the big fish in the air. A “Big fish” is the name I know for airplane when I was a kid. True, I can’t recall saying that but my mother keeps teasing me every time she saw an airplane. As I grow older, I never dream of riding one. For I know, I can’t afford and I won’t be leaving my family that far for me to ride one. But fate brought me to that experience.  As it happened, I remembered my high school teacher tip that I have to chew something so I won’t hurt my ears along the ride.

Riding an airplane is no different to riding a jeepney or a bus. You will still feel the bumps and you need to wear the seatbelt (you can take it off once you are up in the air). The different thing is there are pretty flight attendants who will give you a demo on how to use the seatbelt and how to be comfortable during the ride. The airlines also sometimes conduct Q&A portion and rewards you with their customized prizes.

Second on the list is travelling without any family members. My mama and papa were hesitant to allow me visit Palawan. They knew it’s far and they can’t contact me anytime they want because network signals might not be stable. What they did not know, I was afraid too. I don’t know the place and I know no one so it’s too risky for me. Good thing, my friends secured me all throughout the travel. Thanks to them.

However, I think the real secret of being secure during a travel to a new place is having planned ahead of where to go and how to reach there. In short, itinerary did help a lot. Credit goes to Ras my friend who did the research and planning.

note: As I write this post, I've notice it is getting longer. I decided to shortened it by dividing it into 2 parts. I hope you won't miss reading the second part of this travel post that left me memorable first time experiences.
